Heather completed five more lifts and then plopped on her mat.
“Good job.”
Heather gave him a thumbs down.
“Need help to get up?”
She raised to rest on her elbow. “Not yet.” Heather then watched as Allen rubbed at his face.
“Are you okay?” she asked.
“Yeah.” He cleared his throat. “You can uh… call your Mom and tell her we’re finished for the day.”
“You look worried.”
“It’s fine. I’ll be fine.”
She shook her head. “I think we’ve known each other long enough.”
He raised an eyebrow. “For…”
“For you to share.”
He gave half a smile. “I get that, but I’m at work. It can wait.” He stood to his feet and reached out his hand for hers. “Let me help you up.”
Heather placed her hand in his and didn’t let go once she was on her feet.
“What?” Allen asked.
“Close your eyes.”
“What for?”

“You’ll thank me later. Close them.”
He sighed but closed his eyes. Heather clasped both his hands. “Take a deep breath.”
“Don’t they have apps for this?”
“Indulge me,” she said.
Allen released a deep breath.
“Good, now relax.”
He rolled his shoulders back. Heather ignored the heat traveling up her arms because of holding his hands, but this was about helping him. Did his thumb trace over her hand? Heather didn’t flinch but only stared at his handsome face.
“Feel better?” she asked.
He opened his eyes and focused his eyes on hers. “Yeah, I do. Thanks.”
She shrugged. “Sure thing. You’ve been helpful with my knee, so why wouldn't I be...” Why were they still holding hands?
The corner of his mouth quirked up. “Helpful?”
She rolled her eyes but her smile gave her away. “Yes, I’m working on getting better at that.”
