“Okay.” Ruger isn’t wrong, not at all. It was what I could work with. “You’re at least going to let me help pay my way, right? I mean, it really is the least you can let me do.” The palm of his hand cups my neck while his thumb glides over my cheek.
“Is that so? You think we can talk about this later without a captive audience?” It’s then I take a look around the room. Everyone has stopped what they’re doing, Raven, Persephone, Shovel, Razor, Cannon, and then, of course, the one who always has her eyes on us is Henley.
“Crap, I’m sorry, Ruger. I swear I’ll try my hardest to get better at this thing that’s building between us.” There was a time in my life when the girl inside of me was wild and carefree. Becoming a mom changes you, and having a ‘baby daddy’ jades you in a way you’re not sure you can take a full breath of air without having worries or some kind of stress suck you dry.
“Appreciate it. Just lettin’ you know, doesn’t matter the time or the place, I’ll stop what I’m doing to put your mind at ease. Now, you done bustin’ balls and ready to get this show on the road?” Ruger knows just what to say to calm my shit.
“Yeah. Can you do me one massive favor?” Desire is thick between us, permeating the air. Nothing happened last night. I literally wanted to pout, but Ruger set my mind at ease by letting me know with just how hard he was, and that Henley was the one holding him back, afraid to wake her up.
“You know I’d do anything for you, sugar.” Ruger doesn’t even ask what it could be. Hell, I could ask him to knock someone’s teeth out because they looked at me the wrong way, and he wouldn’t hesitate. Another mark against my soul for how ridiculous I was not to see the true beauty standing in front of me.
“My nightstand. Don’t let anyone pack it or move it. In fact, maybe it should go in my vehicle,” I suggest, and I bet my face is as red as my hair right now.
“I’ll get it. Already know what’s in it, and Sadie?” I’m wiggling out of his hold. Ruger is unbothered by my movements.
“Ruger,” I plead, attempting to lower my eyes from his.
“I’m gonna watch you use those. Tonight. In my bed.” He dips his head, whispering those words in my ear, not allowing anyone to invade our conversation. That doesn’t mean I’m not ready to grab ahold of his hand, march us back to my room, and do exactly as he’s asking. Instead, I whimper an “okay.” His lips graze mine. I don’t let him get away with that this time. Instead, my hand delves into his thick hair, pulling him down, and I deepen the kiss. It seems like forever since we’ve actually kissed, and I’m tired of waiting. I nip at his upper lip, getting my point across. Ruger finally understands what I want. Neither of us worry about anyone, and we don’t pull apart until we’re breathless and our lips are swollen.
“I guess we should get back to work,” I say.
“Fuck, yeah, sugar. The sooner you’re outta here, the faster we’re home.” I really like the way he said those last two words, so I nod, and then walk into the kitchen, helping the girls out. Everyone knows the kitchen is the hardest and longest process of packing. After all, it’s only fair I help them.

“You got your hands full with that one,” Shovel says once we’re back at my place and shit is off loaded in the rooms Sadie wanted them in. Truth be told, this place is sparsely furnished besides the basics. I’m not here a whole lot. Only when the need for some peace and quiet calls my name do I find myself here. That will change completely now that Sadie and Henley are here. Christ, I thought she was going to bust my balls harder than ever back at her apartment.
“And Persephone doesn’t do the same to you?” The girls are in the house now. Pizza was ordered, beer was supplied, and the girls are sitting on the couch. Henley is fast asleep in her own room now. That was another ordeal. She didn’t have much at Sadie’s place in the way of furniture, so I made sure she did.
“Difference is she’s embraced the club. Not so sure if Sadie ever will.” Razor takes the lead in the conversation.
“She might surprise you. Thinkin’ Sadie’s issue is stemmin’ from something else.” This comes from Shovel. I’m not saying my brothers are wrong, but every time she’s been around the club, she’s hesitant but not rude and has no problem pitching in when it’s needed.
