Tempting Country (Ruthless Sinners MC 6) - Page 2

Together, they made me the man I am today.

Country—a Ruthless Sinner through and through.

Country

After a week from hell, I went over to Dunkin’s for a cold beer. It wasn’t a place I went to that often. When I wanted a beer, I’d typically hit Stilettos or the clubhouse, but tonight, I wasn’t just looking to have a drink or two, I wanted to get smashed. I hadn’t let myself get down in the dumps for months. Thinking back, it had almost been a year. I had no reason to, considering things were going well, really well, but I needed a night—just one single night to blow off some steam.

I was having a pretty decent go of it when the front door opened, and every head turned, including mine, to watch a beautiful brunette saunter up to the counter. I didn’t think I’d ever seen the chick before. Hell, I would’ve remembered a beauty like her. She was wearing a black top that fit snug around her breasts with a pair of loose-fit carpenter jeans and boots. Her long, wavy hair was down around her shoulders, and her neck and wrists were covered in jewelry, making her look like a gypsy or one of those hippie chicks on TV. She ordered a drink, and even though she had her choice of any seat in the house, she came over and sat down next to me.

Usually, when a beautiful woman approached me, I’d lay on the charm, toss out a few of my renowned “Country-isms”, and do my best to get in her pants, but tonight, I wasn’t in the right mindset—not even for a smoking-hot chick like her. I just wanted to kick back and sulk alone with my beer, but after a few brief moments, she leaned towards me and asked, “Tough day?”

I shrugged. “Yeah, you could say that.”

“I’m sorry to hear that.”

“It is what it is.”

I continued to drink my beer while she sipped on her Blue Hawaiian. After ordering herself another, she looked over to me and asked, “Do you happen to know of a hotel or something nearby? I really need a place to stay tonight.”

She could’ve easily asked the bartender, but she asked me. Had it been any other night, I would’ve taken that as a sign and told her she could stay with me, but instead, I simply replied, “There’s a Hampton right around the corner.”

“Okay, great. I’ll give it a try.” I could feel her eyes on me as I picked up my bottle and took another drink. I was slouched down with my elbows on the counter, picking at the label on my beer, giving out every sign that I wasn’t interested in talking, but that didn’t stop her from asking, “You from around here?”

“Yeah, you could say that.” For the first time since she sat down, I turned to face her, and damn, something about the way she was looking at me had me reconsidering my earlier plan of ignoring her. I casually straightened my posture, then cleared my throat before asking, “You?”

“No, I’m just passing through on business.” Before I could ask her what kind of business, she added, “But if things go well with my meeting tomorrow, I’ll be coming here quite a bit. Do you have any suggestions on places I should visit while I’m here?”

“You could always check out my place,” I replied with a playful wink. “It’s actually not far from here.”

“Oh, yeah?”

“Yep... just around the corner.” I let my eyes slowly roam over her delicious curves. “You should definitely come by sometime. I guarantee you won’t regret it.”

“I’ll be sure to keep that in mind.” A sexy smirk crossed her face as she looked down at my left hand. “I see you aren’t married. What about a girlfriend?”

“Nope. No girlfriend. What about you? You got a fella?”

“No, I’m afraid not.” She took another sip of her drink. “I don’t have time for a relationship right now.”

“I see.” I studied her for a moment. “So, you’re in town for business. You got no place to stay and no boyfriend. What about a name? You got one of those?”

“Let’s not do that.”

“Do what?”

“Let’s not do the whole exchange names thing. Let’s just keep it as two strangers who met in some random bar one night.”

While I was a little surprised by her request, I was also equally intrigued by it. I knew nothing about the beautiful woman sitting beside me, and she knew nothing about me—not even that I was a member of an MC. Since I was planning on having a bender, I’d left my cut at home and wore a basic pair of jeans and a long sleeve t-shirt, so we were on an equal playing field. “Okay, suit yourself.”

“I must say, you seem oddly familiar ... like I’ve seen you somewhere before.”
