Stone (Obsessed Alpha 1) - Page 19

“I’m pretty sure it was for your pleasure too.” I swipe my other hand to slap him, but he catches it, then slams his mouth down on mine. “I’ve never done anything unethical before. I’ve never touched another intern. So what the fuck is floating in your pretty, untrusting head needs to go.”

“Then what about the panties?”

“I don’t know who put them there, but I have an idea. I came into my office, and they were on my desk.”

“Who would do that?”

And at the same time, we both said, “Ms. Riley.”

“Yes, it was me.” We both shout out. She has a gun pointed at us.

“What are you doing?”

“What the hell does it look like? How could you, Stone? For three years, I’ve been at your side, and you’ve never so much as looked at another woman. Then this bitch shows up, and I knew she’d climb the corporate dick to get ahead. She came after you, and like the weak man you are, you couldn’t resist. She has to die—then we can be happy again.” The angry words rip from her with such deep hatred and betrayal. I’m frightened and cling to Stone.

“Over my dead body,” Stone snarls, holding me close.

“Fine.” As she shoots, Stone tightens his arms around me, rolling us off the bed. I’m pinned under him, and this is the first time, I don’t like it. The sound of a thud echoes in the room, followed by some footsteps.

Chapter Ten

Stone

“Sir, are you okay?” He runs up to us as I sit us up. “You’re bleeding.” I look at my shoulder and I do have a slight graze that stings like a cut, but nothing more. My attention’s on Demi.

“My love, are you okay?” I run my hands all over her body.

“I’m not hurt.” She throws her free arm around my neck and kisses me. I growl and return the kiss, sliding us back down to the floor. I hear Bridger on the phone talking to the police, but all I can focus on is Demi’s moans.

“Sir, could this wait? The police are on the way, and those cuffs would come in handy at this moment.”

“Oh, right.” I pull the key out of my pocket and unlock them. Bridger takes them and cuffs Riley. Fuck, I can’t believe she’s nuts. How did I not see it before?

“Police,” a deep voice shouts from the door.

“In here,” I say. Three officers come in with their guns drawn.

“The weapon’s over there,” Bridger says, drawing attention to where he kicked the gun.

“Is anyone hurt?” one officer asks as another officer cuffs Ms. Riley.

“He’s been shot,” Demi exclaims.

“Baby, I’m fine. It’s a scratch.” It really is. I’d been fucking lucky that it only grazed me and didn’t hit my woman. She’s the most important thing to me. Losing her would be unacceptable.

“She was going to kill you,” she sobs, clinging to me. “I’m so sorry, Stone.”

“Don’t apologize. Just promise me that you’re not leaving me again.”

“I promise.” As soon as the words are out of her mouth, I slam my lips to hers, needing to feel that connection.

“I love you, Demi,” I whisper between kisses.

“Sorry to interrupt, but we have a lot of questions, and you need to be treated at least by the medics we called.”

“Sure,” I grumble.

We’re finally allowed to go home after I’m patched up, and the officers ask their questions. “Let’s grab some of your belongings, then we can have the rest of your things brought to our house later.”

“Okay.”

She packs up some of her things in two suitcases that look brand new. Bridger and I load them into the back of the SUV, then I hop in the back with my fiancée. “Sweets, when was the last time you’ve gone on vacation?”

She lays her head on my chest, snuggling away from my bad arm, and then she answers, “A year before my parents died. I bought these because we were supposed to go on a trip after my graduation, but we never got to go.”

“Well then, we need to rectify that. Any place you want to go for a honeymoon?”

“Honeymoon? We’re getting married?” I know we’ve only been together for a couple of days, but damn, I’ve been fucking her without protection with the hopes of getting my baby in her. Of course, I have every intention of marrying her.

“Of course. Did you think that we’d live in sin forever? You’ve got to make an honest man of me.” I press my hands to my head and heart, pretending to be swooning, and she laughs at me.

“Fool,” she sighs, rolling her pretty light green eyes.

“That I am, but only for you.” I need her to the point that my chest hurts thinking about her leaving me for any reason. Having Demi marry me is one way to tie her to me.
