“You know, whoever snags Cayden is never going to stop laughing,” I said.
“Right? She better have abs of steel, because she’s going to need them,” Jessica said.
“Either that, or she’ll develop them. Quickly.”
“He’s a health hazard if you’re eating, though. He cracked a joke at dinner with Lucas and I a couple of weeks ago and I almost died choking on my French fry.”
“That sounds absolutely terrible, and I still would like to see a video of it,” I said, giggling.
“Look out!”
The frisbee came whizzing by our faces, causing Jessica and myself to squeal. Cash came barreling across the blanket to pursue it and the two of us fell apart in laughter. The boys jogged up to us to make sure we were okay, and then they refilled our wine glasses like the gentlemen they were.
“When are you ever going to find yourself a woman, Cayden?” I asked.
“When I’m done letting my freak flag fly,” he said, winking.
“You could find a woman that’s just as nasty as you are,” Jessica said.
“Trust me. There’s only ever been one woman that sort of scratched that surface. I’m good the way I am, ladies. No need to worry about me,” he said.
Jessica and I rolled our eyes before Cash’s voice boomed above everyone else.
“Cayden! Catch!”
Jessica’s phone vibrated three consecutive times and I furrowed my brow. The guys ran back off to keep playing their frisbee game while Ruby set things
up at the picnic table. No matter what we did, we knew we’d never get that woman to sit down. So, we let her do her thing until she practically wore herself out. Jessica picked up her phone and I watched as worry crossed her features. Her fingers flew over the screen before she closed it out, but instead of settling it onto the ground she placed it in her lap.
“Bianca again?” I asked.
“Yeah. I’m not sure what she’s worried about, but some of her words are misspelled and her sentences are kind of jumbled.”
“Should you call her?”
“She hates talking on the phone when she’s upset. Hence why I’m not putting my phone down just—”
Her phone lit up again, only this time I decided to scoot over and read the message.
I have to call. Can I call? Please let me call.
“Oh, shit. That’s not good,” Jessica said.
“I thought you said she didn’t—”
“She doesn’t. Which is why I’m worried.”
And like clockwork, Bianca’s name popped up on the screen with an incoming phone call.
“Everything all right, girls?” Ruby asked.
“We just have a friend we don’t think is feeling well,” Jessica said.
“Well, if I need to take you guys anywhere, just let me know,” she said.
“Thanks. We really appreciate it,” I said, smiling.
“Bianca? Hello?” Jessica asked.
