“No, that’s my fault. I should have told you that I loved you. If you knew that, I don’t think they could have gotten to you.” Warmth blooms through my whole body.
“Say it again.”
“I love you, angel.”
“I love you too,” I say, making him smile. It always makes my heart flutter when I get a smile from Hunter.
“Now tell me,” he demands.
I blow out a breath before I start from the very beginning of his mom coming to the door, not leaving anything out. The room falls completely silent when I’m done. I stare at him, trying to read his emotions. I’m not sure what he’s thinking, but I do know he’s trying to maintain his composure. I hadn’t missed when his body tensed up as I told certain parts of the story.
“There was a prenup.”
“And I’ll sign it. I get it. I don’t understand how this board thing works, but it’s fine if it makes everyone happy.”
“It doesn’t make me happy,” he growls through his teeth. “I never requested a prenup. Marco did it on his own.”
“Honey, please don’t get upset with Marco. It’s his job to look after you, and he takes that very seriously. You know he loves you like a brother.” Hunter starts to soften.
“I take it you’re a Frank fan.”
“He’s lovely.” I actually think he and I could be friends.
“Careful,” Hunter warns, making me giggle. “The board can shove the prenup up their asses for all I care.”
“Can’t they vote you out or something?” I know he’s the CEO, but I’ve seen a few movies where that happened.
“They could, but they won’t. I’ve more than proven myself. I own sixty percent of the Hoffman shares, and I’ll never let go of controlling interest. Ever. My father built that company, and I’ve made it grow past anyone’s wildest dreams. My father planted the seeds, but I’ve made that place bloom into what it is now. My hard work and dedication did that.”
I have no doubt about that. Hunter has made it clear in the short time I’ve known him that when he wants something, there is no stopping him. It’s how I know he’ll be an incredible husband because it’s what he wants. With the way he admires his father, I know he’ll also be an amazing dad himself one day.
“Maybe they worry if we divorced that I would go after your shares or something?”
“Stop talking about divorce.” He rolls, pinning me under him.
“Okay, they can shove it up their booties.” A bark of laughter comes from Hunter, giving me what I wanted.
“Get up. I’m settling this all now.” He presses a hard kiss to my mouth before he springs from the bed and starts putting his clothes back on. I roll over, slipping off the bed to go in search of mine.
I can feel Hunter’s cum leaking down my thighs. I don’t know why that’s so hot, but it is. When I sit back down on the bed to pull my pants on, Hunter stops me. His hand goes to my knee to spread my legs open.
“You're my wife, Aspen.” His eyes drop between my thighs. “Soon you’ll be the mother of my children. What’s mine is not only yours but theirs too. I won’t sign anything that says otherwise. Ever. Understand me.” I nod my head. “I’ll be pissed if you ever offer again. Especially now that you know where I stand and how I feel on this issue.”
“I love you.” How could I not? “You’re right. The paper is pointless. If you treat me how you’ve treated me from the moment I met you, I’ll never want to leave.”
“I love you too, Angel. Now get dressed. We’re going to go downstairs and show everyone that no matter what they say or do to try to break us apart, it will never work. We’re united. We’re one from now until forever.”
I stand, getting fully dressed. Hunter gave me more than an I love you just now. We lock our fingers together as we head down the stairs together. Everyone is hanging out in the great room when we enter.
“Oh, I was about to come and tell you dinner is almost ready,” Sophia says, coming over to us. She kisses Hunter on the cheek. “Do what you need to. You can always speak freely in my home,” she says in a low voice for only us to hear.
“Thank you, Mom.” He kisses her on the top of the head. “I love you.”
“Oh, Hunter, I love you too.” Tears shine in her eyes. “And I love you too, sweetheart.” Sophia grabs my free hand, squeezing it as she kisses my cheek, leaving me speechless for a moment. ”Thank you for bringing my son back to me.”
“Thank you for raising him to be the man he is. He’s easy to love. As are you.” She swipes at her cheeks, brushing away the free tears that escaped. Edwin comes over, pulling her into his arms.
