The Dating Game (Alphalicious Billionaires 5) - Page 32

Except she wasn’t nameless or faceless.

She was Muffy. And was the nicest, prettiest, sweetest woman that Alex had ever met.

Thinking about her made him think about licking whipped cream off of her, about tasting her, running his hands over the smooth silk of her skin.

He cut that train of thought off before it could get steaming along its tracks. Fuck. The whole bet he had going with Jay was nothing more than a huge shit sandwich.

And it was entirely his fault.

He was the one who was going to have to break things off with Muffy soon.

Even thinking about it was painful. Worse than anything he’d ever felt in the past, which was literally the most ironic thing that could have happened, considering that he’d cut himself off from dating for that very reason, but this time he’d met the exact opposite woman. This time, he’d done all the damage to himself.

CHAPTER 15

Muffy

“Oooh, I’m so excited! I can’t wait to meet your mystery man!” Carla picked a blouse off the floor of her room and held it up against her chest. She was currently wearing a sleek black cami and even tighter skinny black jeans. On her tall frame, she already looked killer.

It made Muffy feel dumpy in comparison. She’d picked out a blue blouse and a pair of skinny jeans, the only pair she owned. Her legs and ass definitely didn’t look as sleek or streamlined as Carla’s did.

“Jeez. I seriously regret asking you to come with me already. He’s bringing a friend though, so I thought fair was fair. I don’t want the guy to feel like a third wheel.”

“What does his friend look like? Is he stacked?” Carla threw on the black blouse and frowned at herself in the mirror. “Shit, this is all wrinkled.”

Muffy rolled her eyes. “You did just pick it off the floor. And I have no idea. And no, don’t even get that look on your face.”

Carla blinked innocently as she turned away from the floor-length mirror she had propped against the far wall of her room. “What look?”

“That look that says you’re already thinking about what to do about it if the guy is stacked. Please, please, please, don’t do anything with his friend. Maybe Alex will get mad at me if you do. I- he’s really nice. I like him more than anyone I’ve dated in years.”

Carla paused. Her hands stilled on the hem of her blouse before they fell away. She studied Muffy for a minute, before she shrugged. “I guess the shirt’s okay after all. Are you ready?”

“Yeah.” She tried to lie convincingly, because she sure as heck didn’t feel ready.

She’d straightened her hair and did her makeup and changed sixty-five million times before she finally settled on what she had on because everything else was pretty much a crumpled mess on the floor, the closet, and the bed. It looked like a hurricane ripped through the place, a clothes hurricane that devastated the closet and took apart the dressers and flung clothes all over the place.

“Let’s go then. I’ll get my keys.”

“Yeah- well- uh…”

Carla eyed her up. “What? What is it you’re not telling me?”

Muffy closed her eyes and braced for the second storm. Hurricane Carla. “Oh. My. God. You slept with him already?”

“No!” Muffy planted her hands on her hips. “Not everything is about sex. I- I didn’t sleep with him.”

“No?” Carla hadn’t even put on any makeup and her hair was done up in a messy bun. She still looked fabulous and flawless as ever. “But you did something?”

Muffy felt her face go scarlet and she turned and grabbed up her purse and keys before Carla could ask her anything else. “No,” she ground out. “And I’m driving.”

“I thought you’d want me to drive. You know… in case you want to go home with Alex after.”

“Nope. Not going home with him after. I’m not even going to have any drinks. This is just a friendly night out so I can meet one of his friends. That’s it. Not going to his place after.”

“Seriously, what did he do to you there, because it must have been good if you’re refusing to talk about it and you’re telling me that you’re not going over there again when we both know that you’re seriously planning on driving me back here and ditching me right after.”

“You know,” Muffy grumbled as Carla caught up with her in the kitchen. “Maybe his friend is hot. I didn’t ask for a picture. Maybe you should go out with him. Then we could double date. Except you don’t date. So maybe you should just sleep with him and then I’ll grill you for embarrassing details and not let up, even when you’re extremely nervous and don’t need to be harassed.”

“Touchy,” Carla quipped. She grinned though, and Muffy couldn’t stay mad. She loved Carla too much for that.
