Phantom's Destruction or Destiny (Power Surge: The Billionaire Club 5) - Page 1

Prologue

Adelina Parker clutched her bag to her quivering stomach as she entered the back room of O’Connor’s Pub in Queens. She hated this place. She hated coming here to drop off money every few weeks, and she hated the way the men all watched her when she came in. A couple of times they tried to hit on her, talk her into staying for a drink, or they simply stared at her as if she were a piece of meat.

It was better that she came to pay her sister’s debt than her sister Kaitlin coming. Kaitlin would never be able to handle this. Not that Adelina was foolish enough to think that these men wouldn’t try anything. But she was way more street smart and savvy than Kaitlin. She wished her sister hadn’t borrowed the money from Mr. Margliado. But then, Bryer, Kaitlin’s son would have probably died.

“He’s waiting for you in the back. You’re looking good, Adelina. On your way to work, or are you off tonight?” Danny asked, as he licked his lips and eyed her over. She knew that she was taking a risk coming here early in the evening before work and all dressed up for The Phantom, but it was better than showing up here at four o’clock in the morning when the club closed, and when all the drunks were here at O’Connor’s.

What a front this place was. No one would ever expect a bunch of mafiosos to own an Irish bar.

“I’m on my way to work. I really need to be quick. Is Sergio back there?”

“Yeah, honey. Go right in,” Danny said. When she looked over her shoulder at the stupid men staring at her ass in the tight dress she wore, she had second thoughts about coming here like this. She just needed to get in and out. Another five thousand paid. Ten thous

and more to go and their debt would be paid.

As she entered the small beat-up hallway, she heard Danny close the door. She made it to the only door down the hallway and knocked first. The sound of a man’s voice telling her to enter radiated through the wooden door. It didn’t sound like Sergio at all.

She slowly opened the door, and when the room came into view, there were five men sitting around a table. A quick scan out of habit, and she noticed the three other men, leaning against the wall suddenly stand straight and look her over.

“Ah, Adelina, so nice of you to stop by,” Sergio stated.

“Who is this lovely creature?” one of the men asked. She got such a sick feeling in her gut. God, she didn’t want to be here.

Sergio pulled her close and kissed her cheek. He had started doing that three times ago. It was unnerving and she hadn’t wanted to tell him to cool it. She feared he would add interest to the payment, or worse, take what he wanted as side credit. She swallowed hard.

“You look stunning. Are you heading to work?”

“Yes. I really need to get going. I just wanted to drop this off to you. Should we go into another room?” she asked, not feeling comfortable knowing that these men, strangers, were listening to her every word. She recognized two of them but wasn’t sure from where. Her stares caused them to wink at her, and she quickly looked back at Sergio. She didn’t want the men to think that she was interested.

“Is it another five?” he asked as he caressed her arm. She nodded her head. Sergio was about five feet seven inches tall, with dark black hair and gray eyes. He was a mean son of a bitch when someone pissed him off, and his prison tattoos on his neck could still be seen coming from the collar of his white dress shirt.

“Yes.”

“Good. Just a little ways to go now. How’s the kid?”

“She’s got a kid? Damn, woman, there are ways you can pay off whatever debt you owe to Sergio,” one of the men stated.

“Hell, how much does she owe you, Sergio? She can pay it off right here with the eight of us,” another stated and then laughed really loudly.

Her heart nearly leaped from her chest. She looked at Sergio and he appeared as if he were contemplating it himself. He stroked a finger along her collarbone.

“She is quite beautiful. A rare find. But no can do, gentleman. Her fate lies elsewhere.” He trailed his finger along her jaw and winked.

She had no idea what he meant. Was he insinuating that after her debt was through he would want her to sleep with him? She started to panic and took a step back. Hands landed on her waist from behind and she quickly turned as she gasped. Sergio pulled her back against his chest, his big arms wrapped around her, directly under her breast line.

“Cool it, Mickey. You’re scaring her, and the boss won’t be happy.”

“I couldn’t resist. Her ass looks fantastic in that dress,” Mickey stated. She pulled from Sergio.

“Can I go now? I really need to get to work.”

“No problem, honey. Maybe next time you’ll stay and have a drink with the boss and me. He’s been wanting to meet you.”

She wanted to yell “no fucking way.” But these men controlled her actions and her mouth right now. She needed to be cool for another two weeks.

“Sure. Maybe next time.”

Sergio smiled, as he led her to the door and she walked out.

The moment she made it through the bar area and onto the city streets she took a deep shaky breath.

I fucking hate coming here. I hate owing money to men like this. But what choice do I have? Kaitlin has Bryer to worry about. The cancer nearly killed him. I have no one. Not even the two men I adore. God, what would Flynn and Jett do to me if they found out about this?

Adelina tried to clear her mind as she got onto the commuter bus. In an hour she would be at work. Another miserable place where she was forced to watch the two men she lusted for hook up with other women that were no good for them. But Adelina was never one to chase after men. She was old school. She couldn’t worry about what she wanted now anyway. She had to take care of Kaitlin and Bryer. They were her priority.

Chapter 1

Adelina had noticed that Flynn was drinking way more than usual, and he was in a rotten mood. His blank stare at her every time she told the bartender Murph to slow the boss down gave her the chills. Both Flynn and Jett Greyson were not men to mess with. The little bit she had learned about them over the past two years was enough to know to stay clear from pissing them off. Jett made his demands clear, and Flynn, well he only had to look at Adelina and she knew to get to him quickly to see what he wanted. They were both that forceful and assertive.

Sometimes that really pissed off her feminist side. She’d witnessed enough torment and pain caused by men to make her heed caution. She knew that Flynn and Jett would never hurt a woman, or anyone, unless provoked. She’d hate to be on the receiving end of that kind of anger. Sometimes she wondered if she were wrong about them. Maybe they paid little attention to the many women they bedded because they really didn’t care to make the effort for a one-night stand. Could they be that callous and self-centered?

She didn’t think so.

She figured it stemmed from their backgrounds in the Secret Service, but what did she know? That was gossip and hearsay around the club scene, as well as the many women who had the pleasure of spending time in their bed. She had to swallow her annoyance and, well, her jealousy. She was tired of picking up after their nights of wild sex, or their inability to hold their alcohol, from partying with women way too young for them. Up until a couple of months ago, she had been getting four hours’ sleep, working ten-hour shifts, caring for her sister and her nephew who went through his last bout of chemo. It had been a hell of a year for her. The bills were never ending, and the reality of how quickly life could be taken from someone ruled her thoughts on everything. It made her question her own life, her own need to be loved while she still walked this earth, and the fact that she was lusting over her two bosses like some stupid teenager with a crush on the older teacher. And boy, could these two men teach her a lot.

She wanted their dominance and control in the bedroom, which she had heard about. She wanted them to order her to suck Flynn’s cock while Jett fucked her from behind while she was bent over the poker table in their back room. She could practically feel their hands on her sensitive breasts, and smell the scent of their cologne as she lay helpless, satiated between their two hot bodies. Holy fuck. Get a grip, Adelina. I can’t keep fantasizing about them. They don’t want me.

She needed to focus on reality. The fact that her sister had to go to a loan shark to get the money needed to pay the bills really sucked. Kaitlin was young and stupid. That was why she fell for Chester and his playboy antics. How many times had Adelina told her younger sister to always protect herself, and that men don’t do that?

Adelina watched the women around Flynn doing the shots. Adelina was so above the doing shots bull crap, staying out all night, and letting any man who showed even remote interest and attraction to her take her to bed. It had been three years and six months since she had sex. She snorted to herself as she realized she knew exactly how long it had been. If there was a clock around, she could probably tell how many minutes and seconds as well.

The sex toys didn’t count and she wouldn’t lie to herself.

Kaitlin’s boyfriend knocked her up and then told her it was her problem. She had been in love with Chester, but he turned out to be a man whore with little respect for women. Even when Kaitlin told him about the baby’s medical condition, he walked away from her and told her to never call him again. That just downright pissed Adelina off.

But she took her sister into her small apartment, and they began raising little Bryer. His medical condition turned into full-fledged cancer, and so the journey through tests, tests, and more tests, chemo, plus hospital stays, turned into bills. There were so many, Adelina couldn’t keep up with them. She thought about trying to get another job

, and squeeze in the hours, but then when she would get home in the early morning, she would take over caring for Bryer, so Kaitlin could get some rest. Those last few treatments made the poor kid so weak and sick, it was heartbreaking. Sometimes Adelina wondered how the hell she kept up with the routine on such little sleep. But she did. There were no other choices.

Jett and Flynn were paying her well, so she held on to the job and did everything they wanted so she could help her sister and nephew survive. As much as Adelina adored Jett and Flynn, staying here at the club was weighing on her. She wanted to quit. That whole “out of sight, out of mind” thing would hopefully work. Then in her sister’s state of trying to feel somewhat in control of this out-of-control situation, she went and borrowed money from Mr. Margliado. Adelina didn’t even know who Mr. Margliado was or what he looked like. What did it matter anyway? Two more payments and they were caught up. She could put all this debt behind her and her sister, and focus on raising Bryer.
