The Woodland Packs - Page 46

If I never went back to my old life, things would be so simple.

But that wasn’t me. I wasn’t simple. I wasn’t easily content. And a part of me knew I’d be fighting all three of them when and if I needed to go home tomorrow.

“Looks like Dex is bringing the party here,” Jay said, his tone dark.

He grabbed my hand and we went through the front door, down the stairs and walked out onto the road in front of the house.

There was a rather large group of men and two older women walking towards us. Dexter and Taylor were with them, but they both had grim looks on their faces.

I stepped closer to Jay and he grabbed my hand in his, holding me against his body.

“What are you doing, Dex?” Jay asked him and my men stepped out of the group to come closer.

Dexter was shaking his head. “Don’t worry, I don’t like it any more than you do.”

Taylor and Dexter stood behind me and I relaxed again, safe and warm.

God, I could get used to this feeling. It was almost drug-like in its intensity.

Mary stepped closer too, smiling warmly. “Claire, some of the neighbouring packs wanted to meet you. I hope you don’t mind.”

Did I mind meeting six more hunks with more muscles than I’d ever seen in my life?

Ah, no. Not really.

“Considering the lack of women in town, I can understand the interest.” I turned and addressed the men. “Hello, I’m Claire.”

They all stared at me, but with none of the heat and lust I’d gotten used to seeing in my men’s eyes.

One large man stepped forward, an Alpha I presumed.

“I’m Grayson.”

He didn’t seem to want to come much closer, but I extended my hand anyway.

“An Alpha, I presume?”

He reached out with a grin and I heard my men inhale sharply. Surely, I wasn’t going to keel over if I touched this one?

“How’d you know?” he asked, and shook my hand in the same way that had occurred a hundred times a day since becoming a doctor.

Nothing happened and I felt the pack at my back breathe a collective sigh of relief.

“You’re big.”

He smiled and glanced down in a sort of shy manner that surprised me. A gentle giant, perhaps? “It’s nice to meet you. May I ask you a question?”

“Of course.”

Damn he had beautiful eyes, a nice manner and huge shoulders. And I could appreciate all that, yes, but there was no attraction. No want, need, or craving.

Perhaps I was fully satisfied? I turned to glance at Taylor and my belly tightened. A smile lifted my lips. Nope. Still there.

I turned back to Grayson, who seemed to be weighing his words.

“Go on, ask me whatever you want.”

I was feeling relaxed and part drunk on sex. I’d tell them anything they wanted at this point in time.
