The Woodland Packs - Page 63

Dexter grabbed my bag and we walked to Jack’s room, where he, too, was being packed up to go home.

“I cannot wait to get out of here!”

Mary smiled and kissed her big man, who was on his feet and looking strong.

“We can’t wait to have you home.”

Mary turned to me with that calm expression that never faulted. “Are you coming home with us, Claire, or staying in town tonight?”

My options were laid out I front of me, and the guys had made that crystal clear too. I could live anywhere, as long as they were allowed to go along for the ride.

And despite the stress and danger of the bears, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

“I’ve been put on sick leave for four weeks with my arm, so I may as well come home with you for a bit.” Radiographs had verified that my arm had been broken in two places.

I caught Dexter’s eye and he grinned, but no one said anything more. It was like they were afraid to break the spell cast upon me.

Jack and I signed all the release forms, and when we walked out the front of the hospital I got a nice surprise.

“What are you guys doing here?”

Jay and Taylor leaned against a new four-by-four, with a bull bar, roll cage and more. “And what’s with the new ride?”

Taylor threw Dexter the keys and he held them out to me. “We got it for you.”

“You bought me a car?” Well, a truck was more like it.

I blinked at them, unable to believe they were really handing over such an expensive gift.

My own parents made me buy my own dinner on my birthday, and my men were just handing over a brand new monster-sized truck?

“Of course! We want you to be safe when you’re driving. This thing’ll run over a bear if you happen to come across one,” Taylor said with a wink.

Jack and Mary walked up. “Nice truck! We’ll see you at home.”

I moved closer to my new truck, awestruck by the sheer size and shiny paint. “Um… I don’t know what to say.”

Jay opened the passenger side door. “Say thank you and jump in.”

I grinned and resisted the urge to kiss his beautiful lips. “Thank you, guys. It’s great. Really great.”

I got in and we headed back to the pack. I left the window open and took lots of breaths of clean air as we followed Mary’s car.

My men and I hadn’t had much time alone in the past few days, and I could feel the need for them growing in my belly.

“It’ll be great to get home. I’ve missed a proper bed.”

Among other things.

“We think you’ll like what we’ve done. We’ve rearranged Dexter’s bedroom so we can fit two king size beds in there now, side by side.” Taylor said from the back seat.

I swivelled around to grin at him.

“You guys moving in to one bedroom, huh?”

Jay rolled his eyes. “Only if you’re there. I’m not sleeping with them on the nights you’re at the hospital.”

I laughed, the happy sound filling me up and making me settle into the huge bucket seat and fully relax. “Well… I look forward to seeing it when we get home.”
