He didn’t look worried. “I am sure they will be.”
We were quiet for a moment, then he spoke again.
“So, Mama offered to let the kids stay over one night next week,” Stefano said quietly. “I was thinking about getting us a hotel room. Taking you to dinner.”
“A night without the kids?” I asked, surprised and instantly worried.
He leaned over, taking my hand. “We could start with dinner, see how you’re feeling. Go for a drink after and check in again. If you want, we could stay overnight, or go pick up the kids and come home. Whatever you’re comfortable with.”
I hadn’t left Luna since she was born. I knew it had to happen, but she seemed so small and still too young. I met Stefano’s eyes, seeing nothing but love and understanding.
“How about dinner this week, dinner and drinks next time, and maybe an overnight a few weeks from now?” he suggested.
I pulled in a deep breath. “How about if that hotel room includes a big tub like last time, we try it?”
“Yeah?” he replied, his eyes glowing. “I can have you all to myself for the whole night?”
I smiled at my husband. The man who had changed my life. Who became the father my son needed, the husband every woman dreamed about, and the daddy to the sweetest little girl on the planet. The man who loved us deeply, protected us fiercely, and asked for so little in return.
Dinner. A night spent concentrating on us. Him.
I nodded. “Sounds good.”
He leaned forward and kissed me. “I’ll book it.”
“You do that.”
“I love you, Tesoro.”
I smiled. “Back at you, Amore. Ti amo. Sempre.”
He kissed me again, his mouth lingering.
“Sempre.”
