“My dad came from a wealthy family, and he did very well in the market. I can’t put an exact amount, but it’s in the billions.”
She felt Cason stiffen under her.
Travis shook his head. “Jesus. Some people will do anything to get their hands on that kind of money.”
She nodded. “I’m supposed to get it when I’m twenty-five, so in less than two years. If I get married before then, my husband gets control of it.”
“Would that bother you?” Devon asked.
“No. My dad knew I’d pick the right man. But there are safeguards on the fortune also. I’m not sure what they are. You’d have to read the will.”
The men talked around her, but she just wanted to cuddle in Cason’s arms. She felt his rigid muscles and looked up at him. “Are you mad at me?” she whispered.
He exhaled. “No, baby. You’ve done nothing wrong.”
“Okay, good. I do remember one rule. If I am kidnapped for ransom, it’s widely known they, the bad people, would never get anything.”
“Where did you get that?” Cooper asked this question.
“My mother told me that before I left for college. I think it was to make sure I stayed with my guards at all times, and I wasn’t tempted to give my virginity away because the monster wanted it.”
Cason growled. “I think that’s enough for now, baby. Why don’t you go into the office and read or organize your things? We’ll get on the internet later and get you some more.”
She nodded. She’d had enough. She just wanted to forget for a while.
