Then suddenly the phone went dead.
Micah leaned his head against the headrest in his car. How had something so good gone so badly in such a short period of time? He had to believe that Izzy was strong enough to endure this shit they had thrown at them, but the last few weeks had been riddled with one disaster after another. Their timing was awful and his denial of his feeling towards her was a joke. Micah was crazy about Isabel and he’d fight until his last dying breath to get her back. He just needed to find her to tell her.
It wasn’t until after midnight that he heard back from Luca. The amount of times he called Isabel’s phone would be considered illegal in some states. He tried calling, texting, and even emailing her to call him, but nothing. She’d turned her phone off and who knew if she would bother checking email. He had been pacing the apartment in a state of drunken disarray when his phone finally rang. Even though it was in his hand, he still jumped at the sound, only to be disappointed it was his brother, not Isabel.
“Yeah.”
“She’s in Orlando.”
“Where?”
“Have you been drinking?”
“Yeah, where is she?”
“Micah, you can’t go after her if you are drunk.”
“The hell I can’t. Luca, tell me where she is.”
“I called some friends that own a security firm and they tracked her to a hotel near the tourist traps. She used her credit card to check in a couple of hours ago.”
“And you are just now calling me?”
“They just called me back. I’m not keeping anything from you, Micah. Stop being so paranoid.”
“I have to get to her.”
“Don’t drive.”
“I’m not an idiot. Of course, I’m not going to drive. I need to call someone. Fuck, why don’t you live here?”
“Listen, why don’t you wait until the morning? Try to sleep this off. I can catch a flight down early and drive up with you. You’re not thinking clearly right now.”
“What if... what if she does something crazy tonight?”
“Micah, she’s safe. She’s at the hotel. They were even able to call security and confirm she is there. She valeted her car, and she hasn’t left her room. They will call again if she makes any moves, but right now, she’s fine.”
“Who are these people?”
“Good people to know. Now, promise me you won’t leave Miami tonight.”
“This is the hardest thing I’ve ever had to deal with.”
“I know.”
“She’s all I have, Luca. I’m all alone here. Ever since she walked into my life, it’s as if I can’t survive without her. I don’t understand why it took me so long to figure it out.”
“Trust me, I know the feeling. But you aren’t alone. You have me and the girls... and now I guess we have Sofia.”
“Fuck… Sofia. I should call her. I’m sure she doesn’t appreciate her picture being blasted all over Miami.”
“You haven’t talked to her?”
“No, I’ve been too worried about Izzy. It’s late, but I’ll call her now and check on her.”
“I still don’t know how I feel about all of this.”
“You know, I told Jenny I had someone for you guys to meet. I had planned to tell Izzy and fly up with the two of them in a couple of weeks. At this rate, I’ll be lucky if either of them will even speak to me.”
