“No,” Anders says sadly. “That would be a betrayal to my brother and my King. I may be more understanding about Aeval’s situation, but I am loyal to my family. I will not betray him. I am offering my assistance so that Aeval can regain her mind, nothing more.”
Lincoln is about to yell at him that he is as useless as a spade with a hole in it when Vito nods and says, “Yes, I will go.”
“Vito,” Lincoln says with a shake of his head.
“We need to do everything we can to help her. If we can’t take her away from here now, then we have to do what we must until we can,” Vito says steadily.
Lincoln stares into his eyes and he sees something in them. Vito has a plan, so he will go with it. “Very well,” he says stiffly. “I will stay here and ensure that she remains unaffected by more spelling.”
“As you must,” Anders says with a regal nod. He holds his hand out to Vito and Vito clutches his wrist and then they are gone.
Lincoln lets out a huff and hopes that Vito knows what the fuck he is doing. But the only thing that matters right now is to get to Aefre and keep her safe from Sebastian. He heads up the stairs and finds her in her bedroom with Sebastian.
“Let me have some time with her,” Lincoln says.
“No,” Sebastian replies coldly.
“I can’t go anywhere with her,” Lincoln snaps at him. “And anything I could tell her she probably won’t even remember. I just want to be with her and comfort her.”
“I am comforting my wife,” Sebastian says.
“Please,” Lincoln says quietly.
Sebastian sighs and stands up. He moves across to the window and looks out of it with his arms crossed. “I’m staying,” he says determinedly.
“Okay,” Lincoln says, not really caring. As long as he is here Sebastian won’t try anything with her. He climbs onto the bed and lies down next to her. He wraps his arms around her and settles her back against his chest. She doesn’t push him away; she doesn’t do anything. He hears her short breathing and it worries him, but she is in his arms now and he will keep her safe.
The Underworld, October 2014 - Vito
“What? What is the fucking problem?” Vito hears Devon cry as he and Anders land in the library, having somehow popped through the wards. Vito wasn’t entirely sure if they would be able to get in but as he suspected, it seems that they are possibly just to keep the Dragons, and anyone with Dragon blood as a result, out. That is good, but he wonders why Remiel hasn’t let them know that fact. He casts a quick glance over at the French doors and yes, the Dragons are still camped out and getting restless.
“Vito?” Constantine asks. “What are you doing here? I told you to stay.”

“There has been a development. A bad one,” Vito says and then feels a power rush right behind him.
“Who are you?” Remiel asks, his eyes on Anders.
“Anders, Prince of the Light Fae, first in line to the throne,” Anders says back imperiously. “Who are you?”
Remiel tilts his head at him and shifts his eyes back to Vito. “Why the devil are you here without Aefre if you could accomplish such a task?” he says in a tone that sounds unassuming but is anything but.
“Firstly, I can’t get near Aefre,” Vito says, “and secondly, you need to listen to me. You need to stop what you are doing by trying to contact her.”
“Why?” Constantine asks straight away.
“It is confusing her. Her mind is…addled,” Vito says.
“Addled?” Constantine asks in confusion.
“Oh, please,” Anders snorts. “Say it like it is. She has lost the plot, flown over the cuckoo’s nest. The lights are on, but no one is home.”
“Excuse me?” Remiel says. “She has lost her mind?”
“It’s more than that,” Vito says before Anders can add anything else to his not-so-helpful comment. “She has shut down.”
“Then we need to try harder to get to her,” Constantine says.
