The Wife Win - Page 8

Marek

I’m feeling good mentally after the productive strategy meeting with my staff yesterday morning. The pieces are in motion and now we just have to finish out our scouting plans over the next few weeks before the draft in June.

It’s all coming together as I’d planned.

Jumping on a treadmill to warm up before Lars kicks my ass again, I slide in my earbuds and turn on some music, hitting the start button and slowly pushing my legs to cooperate. I like working out this time of morning before too many people arrive. I glance around and notice a few of the regular members. One a local politician on the city council. Another prominent criminal attorney. My eyes gravitate two rows of machines in front of me and land on a woman who grabs my attention and doesn’t let go.

A long, sleek ponytail swings wildly as she runs at a steady pace, arms pumping, legs striding with even speed. And then my gaze inadvertently lands on her ass.

I swear to you, I do not intentionally ogle women. Leering at and objectifying a woman is not only disrespectful, but downright disgusting. Some men will tell you it’s a form of flattery from their perspective and a way to show appreciation to the female figure. I simply find it rude and distasteful.

But I’ll be honest, at the moment, it’s very difficult to keep my eyes off that ass. I’m clearly mesmerized by the jiggle of her tight, sculpted backside. It’s prominently featured under the formfitting pair of black leggings that mold around each cheek, hugging her hips and legs. Her long, toned legs that could wrap around a guy and never let go as you bury yourself inside her soft pussy.

I nearly miss a step, losing my balance. Catching myself with hands on the side rails, I curse out loud for getting distracted. I also glance down and notice I’m sporting a semi-erection. Fucking hell. What am I? Some horny teenage kid?

Not a kid, certainly. But it has been over a year since I’ve been with a woman. So horny, yes.

Shaking my thoughts free, I press the incline button and get back to the business of warming up. But my eyes have a mind of their own and within a few seconds, they dart back in her direction. With no warning, she stops her run by jumping off the tracks, hitting the pause button before straddling the equipment. Then she bends down to retie a shoe.

I have a perfect view of her ass as it lifts high in the air.Holy fucking hell.

I may have made a noise that was a cross between a grunt and a desperate moan, because our eyes lock the moment she turns her head and glances over her shoulder to find me staring at her.

Shit. My breath hitches when I see who it is. Not only am I caught looking at her, but it also happens to be Harper, the same woman I ran into yesterday.

What are the odds of that? I suppose it’s not that weird of a coincidence, considering she was right outside the gym when I plowed into her. It must be that she’s a new member because I’ve never seen her in here before today. And I’d have to be dead not to notice her in those workout leggings.

Harper’s eyes widen in surprise when she realizes it’s me. Her smile is cute, the corners curling upward as she gives me a quick wave.

I stop my own machine and grab my drink and my towel, walking through to the end of the aisle and up toward her.

“Hello again, Harper. I didn’t know you’re a member here. You new?”

She glances nervously around and shakes her head. “No, but I am on a guest pass. I’m just in town for the week.”

I fiddle with the lid of my water bottle. “Here on business?”

“Yep.”

I’m not sure what it is about her one syllable answer, but it begs me to ask for more. Like one of those tiny desserts that are offered at fancy cocktail parties. One bite and you know it’s not enough. I want to dig in and find out everything there is to know about Harper.

Which is why I do what I do.

“What’s your schedule look like after your workout? Are you free to grab that coffee?”

Harper swipes at a loose strand of hair that gets caught in her eyelashes, tucking it back behind her ear. The move is so natural, yet also sensual.

“I’d really like that, Marek, but it wouldn’t be a date. It would be business.”

I blink because I’m not sure what she’s getting at. What business is she referring to? She’s not a…nah. That’s ridiculous.

“Not sure I understand what you mean. It’s just coffee.”

She reaches down to her bag next to the machine and pulls out a small white business card. She hands it to me with an almost apologetic look.

I glance down at the name and her business credentials.
