Frankie's Bride - Page 4

“Doctor Stein. She’s gone. You have to call it. Frankie, you’ll break her ribs,” the nurse from before says. Doctor Frankie Stein. He has a name. His powerful thrusts should hurt me but instead, it reminds of other things. Naughty things. Now is not the time to get wet. The power is still out except for auxiliary things. I can hear the rain lashing against the windows and thunder rolling in the distance. I take a deep breath, reaching my hand up to touch his cheek.

“Hello?” I squeak. My voice is dry. So dry. Like I gargled with sandpaper. He halts his movements.

“You’re alive?” he asks, eyes meeting mine. Moving my hand away from his face, I nod, while sitting up. As soon as I do, lighting illuminates the room once more, followed by the loudest thunder I’ve ever heard. The room shakes and the windows rattle. “She’s alive. She’s alive,” he shouts like a crazy person.

Reaching out, my blood-stained palm touches his blood-stained shirt. Oh damn, his muscles are huge. “You brought me back from the dead. Now, what are you going to do with me?”

Chapter 2

Frankie

I kept my promise. I saved her. When I first saw her limp body, I felt like her soul was already severed from her body. I was so caught up in reviving her, I didn’t notice her coming back. To me. I tell myself that she came back to me. I am obsessed with her. Obsessed isn’t a strong enough word for what this is. This is fate. I am torn between being a doctor and being the beast that I know I am.

Even after she is showered and back in bed, I can’t seem to leave her side. I’m drawn to her like a moth to a flame. Her words shook me. “You brought me back from the dead. Now, what are you going to do with me?” I don’t have a sane answer for her yet, and I dare not speak the insane one. She’s without a doubt the girl from my dream. I changed the outcome. She didn’t die in my arms, though it was close. Too fucking close.

“You never answered my question, Doctor Stein,” she says her voice lilting.

“Please call me Frankie. I’m not sure you are ready for my answer,” I reply honestly.

“Try me,” she counters causing me to chuckle. It’s hard to believe she was having an organ removed not two hours ago or that she was clinically dead for an hour. She has healed pretty much miraculously. I wonder if my blood had anything to do with it.

“The only answer I can give you is you are mine now.”

“Yeah, that sounds about right,” she says smiling. “When can I get out of here? My cat needs to eat. Oh my God. Where are the children?”

“Children? You have children?” I ask incredulously.

“Oh, God no. Not yet,” she says blushing. “I was babysitting when it happened. One of the little girls was coloring. The other one, she stabbed me.”

“A child did this to you?”

“A deranged one, but yes, a ten-year-old little girl.” Her shudder doesn’t go unnoticed by me.

“I heard the assailant was in custody. They didn’t mention anyone else.” I feel much better about that, but I am floored that it was a child.

“I need to talk to the cops.” I nod my head and hand her the card of the detective who came to collect the evidence left at the nurse’s station. “Did my purse come with me?” she asks.

“No. Just you.”

“Well, shit,” she swears, picking up the phone in her room. I try to back out to give her privacy, but she reaches out and takes my much larger hand in her tiny one. I offer her what little comfort I can as she asks the police pertinent questions about her case. I’ve declared her fit for release which is insane since she was just stabbed, but she is in perfect health. She ends her phone call and looks up at me. Her deep blue eyes pierce my soul.

“Shouldn’t you keep me for observation or something?” she asks.

“Do you need to be observed?” I ask rubbing my jaw. My beard has almost completely grown in since I showered this morning. Every system in my body is now hyperactive. As I stare at her, my cock is hardening down my leg.

“By you, yes. Oh shit, I’m letting my crazy show, aren’t I?”

“Your crazy matches my own,” I admit. “You’re coming home with me,” I decide. I know I have blurred the lines of propriety. She’s my patient and I’m her doctor. But I don’t give a flying fuck.

I brought her back, that makes her mine. At least that’s what I’m telling myself as I discharge her from the hospital and put her in my Silverado. She directs me to her apartment. She has no keys, but the damn door is unlocked. I’m going to have to talk to her about that. I run inside and grab her cat and it’s accessories. My house isn’t far from work and in less than ten minutes, I am pulling her out of the truck and lifting her in my arms. She looks sexy as hell in the spare scrubs I located for her.
