Figured, he mentally grumbled, taking another long draw on his cigarette. He breathed in deeply, letting the smoke fill his lungs, holding it there for a long moment before slowly releasing it into the air. He almost laughed when a group of teenagers walked by at that exact moment, most of them getting a face-full of his expelled smoke. They all waved their hands in front of their faces, glaring at him as they hurried past, but none of them dared to speak to him.
Good! Maybe he was getting that badass aura that he’d been striving to achieve for so long! It was about time! He’d been stuck with a boyish look well after his high school years, which was why he’d grown a beard. Damn thing didn’t grow very well, though, and it itched like crazy.
He wondered if he should just shave the damn thing off and…!
His attention was captured when a line of black SUVs drove up, coming to a halt right in front of the non-descript entrance he was trying to watch. Who the hell needed that many SUVs?
As soon as the question had finished forming in his mind, he straightened away from the building’s wall, his eyes and mind alert as he watched…holy hell! His stepsister was moving out of the SUV and…! Scott’s eyes bulged as he watched the bitch walk into the back entrance of the museum on the arm of none other than the freaking Sheik of Citran! Holy hell, what was she doing with that bastard? And why was the huge man looking down at her as if she’d cast some sort of spell over him? Was the idiot in love with Faye? She was such a sappy, pathetic woman! She was a freaking art teacher for freak’s sake! Art! No one cared about art! It wasn’t like it contributed to the world in any way. Pictures were fine enough to look at but other than that, they were pointless!
So what was going on? Why was Faye sucking up to the giant bastard?
Scott smiled as he suddenly realized what was going on! Faye always acted so pure and sweet, but he knew the truth. The bitch must be playing the guy! He had to be worth billions! So yeah, she had a pretty good situation going on now! Mentally, he just doubled the amount of money he was going to ask her for. And there was no way in hell he’d ever pay her back. Not when she had a sweet sugar daddy helping her out! Hell, she probably wouldn’t even remember the measly amount he was going to get from her.
But as he waited for the rich, royal bastard to come out, something else occurred to him. If Faye was screwing the guy, which was most likely, then maybe Scott could use Faye to get the guy to sign the mining contract for Citran that the old man wanted so desperately. Neville was right of course. If they had a signed contract, signed by the freaking leader of the country, no less, then there wouldn’t be a need for all of this sneaking around and digging only at night! Of course, the contract didn’t need to specify exactly what they were actually mining for. Or where. Hell no! The terms of the contract were all vague, saying that the mining company was only “speculating” on potential mineral deposits. Anything specific meant that the country would demand a percentage of the profits and that wasn’t something that Mr. Neville would allow, hence all of the secrecy and vague contract terms. Until they had the contract signed, Scott dealt with the crappy night shifts and forcing people out of their homes instead of just buying up the land like some companies did.
His mind whirling with ideas, he carefully made plans while he waited for the bastard to leave. He suspected that he’d have the same couple of hours wait, so he was startled when the tall brute stepped through the door less than twenty minutes after he’d entered.
Good grief, even the museum director had received a bit more time and attention from his lovely, tediously boring stepsister! And was that a guard that had been left behind?
Unfortunately, the big goon’s presence off to the side of the building kept Scott from approaching Faye before she went off to do the nasty with the museum director. He’d have to be a bit more careful about approaching her now.
Scott tried to relax, once more leaning against the building.
Normally, Faye rushed out of the museum an hour or two after her arrival. But even after three hours, Faye still hadn’t emerged through the back door. Scott waited another hour, the heat increasing along with his temper. Where the hell was she? Why wasn’t she coming out after a couple of hours like normal?
Muttering under his breath and disgusted that he was now out of cigarettes, Scott walked away, thinking he’d just have to catch her before she got to the coffee shop tomorrow morning. There was no way he was standing out here in this heat for who knew how long. He shook his head, wondering how Faye could do two men in the same morning. Well, the first guy had been pretty quick. Faye must have had plenty of time to work on the older guy after the sheik dude had left.
He chuckled, shaking his head at Faye’s pathetic pretense of being such an upstanding, wonderful teacher. Hell, if her school administration knew what she did in her time off, they wouldn’t keep her on staff.
Just thinking about that made him tuck that little threat into the back of his mind. If she didn’t share the bounty, he’d just have to give her a little taste of the ruthlessness he’d learned over the past few years working for that psycho Neville.
