Vikings from Mars - Page 76

Jumping up from the bed, she wagged a finger at him. “I’m going to take a shower. Then you’re going to keep your promise to show me where you think it will be safe for us to build our home.”

“I’ve shown you the map several times.” Rolling over onto his stomach, he made a grab for her hand. “You can choose whichever area you want.”

Dodging his hand, Raine giggled again, moving further away from the mattress, not trusting herself to be strong enough to resist his attempt to change her mind.

“I want it to have plenty land where all your clansmen can build homes, with trees, and mountains, and water. Water is very important.”

Skars rolled onto his back to give her a heated look. “You know what else is important?”

Raine gave him an irritated sigh. “You really don’t want to talk about this right now, do you?”

His eyes started to glow; Raine had discovered anger wasn’t the only emotion that made his eyes do that in that particular shade of red.

Raine stopped in her tracks. Was she really walking away from the hunk of burning love sprawled naked just a few inches away from her? Unwillingly, her eyes traveled over a buff, tattooed chest to hips that she ached to lick; the smooth flesh like a mystery flavor in the alien of the month club. Appraisingly, her gaze went lower. Skars’ penis rested comfortably on his muscled thigh, a centimeter from his knee, quelling her wavering libido with the suddenness of a belly flop in an inviting pool.

Tingles of discomfort from overused muscles brought her back to reality from the lust haze that Skars was intentionally staging to lure her back into experiencing more of the erotic pleasure he was so good at giving her. The problem was he might not need a cooling-off period, but darn, her body had said a Hail Mary the last time she had let him talk her into another go.

Raine gave him a threatening glare. “It’s not going to work.”

Skars slid his hand over his abdomen to come to a rest on his thigh, drawing her gaze directly to the tip of his penis. “What isn’t?”

She wasn’t buying the look of pretended innocence either.

“Earth has this animal that lives in the water. It’s called an alligator,” Raine told him. “You don’t see it until you’re stupid enough to go into the water.”

Skars’ lips curled into a smile, which reminded her of the animal she had likened him to. “What does it do when you go into the water?”

“The alligator uses its teeth to drag you under until his prey is drowned, and then he devours it.”

“I’m not like an alligator,” he scoffed in amusement. “I want you very much alive when I devour you.”

Sashaying toward the shower room, Raine decided to cut and run before giving in to the temptation in which Skars’ sultry voice invoked—the memory of the last time he had devoured her.

“Yeah right,” she tossed over her shoulder. “Behave yourself. I need a shower before I will even consider letting you …” Raine couldn’t bring herself to look back one more time, or she would find herself back in bed with him. Her willpower was already at the breaking point. “… devour me,” Raine delicately finished.

“We call it …”

Raine blithely plugged her ears, humming the rest of the way into the shower room.

Taking off the overly large shirt of Skars that she was wearing, she stepped under the water. Still in awe of the room, despite the numerous times she had made the excuse to shower in Skars’ personal Garden of Eden, Raine lifted her face to let the water splash down on her. She didn’t think she would ever get tired of the serenity and peacefulness she found in the room.

Realizing she’d forgotten the soap, she moved away from the water to the plants on the wall. Moving closer, she stretched upward, reaching for one that hadn’t been plucked yet that was higher up. Plucking it, she dropped her gaze when she caught sight of the wall behind the plants.

As she peered closer, her lips firmed in a tight line as she pivoted to move the other wall closer to the bench where Skars had sat the first time she had showered.

“The dirty, rotten peeping …” she mumbled, spotting the same mirrored tiles on the other wall. “I’m going to kick him where the sun doesn’t shine,” she threatened wrathfully beneath her breath.

“Anything wrong?” Skars called out from the other room.

Spinning at his question, Raine was happy to see the doorway empty with the door still closed. How had he heard her? She had barely heard him, and his voice had been raised. She was irritated, but her voice had been muted.

Sitting down on the bench, Raine thought back to when he had been fighting with the Olggans and the reactions of the Vikings when she had screamed. Several other instances came to mind when they had reacted strongly to loud noises. Was their hearing sensitive to loud noises?
