Left alone with Ethan, I make sure to hide my annoyance. “How’s it going, Ethan?”
“Great, since I think I can help you out with the job situation.”
I eye him suspiciously. After Rowan, I’m not keen on accepting help that seems to just fall into my lap. “Really?”
He nods enthusiastically. “I work for a software development company and the office is in need of a receptionist. The last girl was a college student, too. You can check it out, see if it suits you.”
My interest is in the art world, but I can be a receptionist—anything to pay tuition and hopefully get my own place. “I’ve got to run, but we can meet up later and I’ll give you the details.”
My excitement dwindles. “Meet up?”
“Yeah. For drinks.” He shrugs. “There’s this place near my office where we can go to talk more about it. I can give you the details. Maybe prep you so you’ll have a foot in.”
Nibbling my lower lip, I contemplate turning him down. I don’t want to meet Ethan anywhere. He’s way too flirtatious for my comfort. But I need a job.
“Okay, just give me the address and I’ll meet you there.”
“I can fetch you at your place if you like,” he says.
I give him a saccharine smile. As if. “I’ll meet you there.”
His lips twist with what looks like disappointment. “It’s a date.”
I resist the urge to roll my eyes. I’ll play nice to see if this gets me employment.
