“Thank you,” I whispered, only catching a glimpse of Garret making his way over there before I collapsed back down with Jaide again.
“You better not be crying,” she whispered.
“Thank you,” Garret said from somewhere in the dark.
“I couldn’t just leave…” Elliot cleared his throat. “I brought you to where my people were born and where the last of us live.”
“Xerai.”
And just like that all my gratitude melted.
Xerai. He brought us into the country of Fae. His people. The people who had cursed my own.
Fury pulsed through me and I stood ready to go down there and find the king, or do whatever it is you do to a Fae ruler who banned an entire race of people to wasteland. But as I stood, as I raised my hands, my own light went out.
Whatever power Jaide had given me was gone.
It was probably for the best.
