“What.” He chuckled at her deadpan remark. “Toby, the bad boy of the century? Whose reputation preceded him throughout high school?”
Travis laughed. “The one and only.”
Her fingers tightened a degree on his thigh, shooting a spiral of tingling up his leg. It was probably mindless on her part, but it caused his blood to simmer. Caused those telltale pulses of blood to start working their magic.
“And you haven’t gone home in years?”
“Med school ate up most of my time, then residency and my fellowship, now V-Tech.”
“Sounds like an excuse.” She leveled a smirk at him. It had so been an excuse. And she was good at this “prying” thing. “You don’t ever go visit Toby? Or Tyler?”
He shrugged again, then lifted his eyes heavenward and laughed. “The shrug.”
She laughed, too, then took a drink of sparkling water. Pinching her water between her outstretched knees to free up her other hand, she reached up and brushed a thumb across his lip where root beer glistened. He dusted a kiss upon it.
“What happened to you overseas?” she asked.
