Second First Kiss - Page 45

“So.” Sage walked up to him. “Volunteering for extra duties, eh?”

“Just following the example of someone I admire.” He winked. Like that deer had winked. “After all, there were no surgeries scheduled. And the hospital needs me.” He pressed open the staff room door and they walked down the hallway toward the emergency wing together.

Talk about sudden change. It was an echo-reverse of what she’d said to him on the way to Moose Creek. That the hospital needed him.

“Your magnanimity is appealing.” She fell into step with him. He looked pretty amazing in scrubs. No other doctor she’d ever seen had biceps stretching the hem of the sleeve so tightly.

“I like that. Is anything else appealing?”

Besides his biceps and his smile and his mad surgical skills? “I’ll get back to you.”

“I’d like that. I’ll need a comprehensive list.”

“That might take a while.”

“Take your time. I prefer thoroughness.”

Was that so? She caught his eye again, and it gleamed. He was teasing. Flirting with her. At work. Ethics and morals set up a tailgate party at the base of her stomach. “So do I.”

“Then we make a good team.”

Oh, they did, huh? They arrived at the ER, which was mostly empty. Of course, that wouldn’t last. Even on a Tuesday morning.

A siren sounded in the port outside, and the exterior ER doors flew open to reveal an ambulance.

Sage’s adrenaline surged. It was go-time.
