“Oh, please. You’re such an ass. Don’t act so noble, or like you’re innocent. There’s something weird going on between the two of you. Years ago, she was in your class and transferred out of the blue for no reason at all. Even I can admit you’re good at your job. No student has ever transferred from your class. She must have done it for a reason. Now the two of you look cozy.” The corners of his lips turn up into a lazy smile that makes my skin crawl.
Fuck… I’m fucked. He’s suspicious, and he’s right to be. I’m careful here, and except for that day in my office last week, I’ve been careful with Paige, but he can see through my shit.
“Kevin, mind your business, and your tongue,” I hiss. I hate being called out on anything, especially when I’m in the wrong.
He laughs a crude sardonic laugh that makes my blood boil. “Struck a nerve? That’s all I wanted to do. You’ll reveal yourself soon, Marchesi. You see, you think you’re this badass prick who has his shit together, but your eyes give you away.”
I say nothing. It’s best not to engage in any further conversation with him.
He back pedals then walks out, allowing the door to slam shut behind him.
What the fuck am I going to do now?
I want Paige, and I don’t want to let her go.
The question is, am I ready to face the consequences of our relationship?
