Every Saturday Night (Firsts and Forever 6) - Page 27

Chapter6

I found myself daydreaming about Lucky at random times—and some that weren’t so random. When I was alone in the shower every morning, those daydreams often turned into fantasies and I’d find myself getting achingly hard.

Since I had so little privacy, this was usually my only opportunity to jerk off. It wasn’t always successful though, since I was acutely aware I was tying up a bathroom shared by five people, and coming under pressure took a lot of the fun out of it. If I couldn’t finish in about five minutes, I just had to give up and live with the frustration.

I thought about Lucky at night too, but these thoughts were surprisingly chaste. Mostly, I just imagined him beside me in bed, holding me while I fell asleep. Sometimes that led to dreaming about him, and I’d wake up with an odd kind of longing I really wasn’t used to.

Meanwhile, Lucky texted me once or twice a day. Asking my opinion had turned into a running joke between the two of us, and the stuff he came up with never failed to put a smile on my face.

One day, he was out clothes shopping and sent me a photo of two identical white T-shirts, asking if option A or option B was the better choice. He had me laughing out loud the day he went to the grocery store and came up with all kinds of side-by-side comparisons for me to choose from. The best one was a pair of eggplants, one short and fat, the other long and thin. That led to several minutes of dick innuendoes.

By Saturday night, I was beyond ready to see him.

The baby actually fell asleep a little early. Even so, I waited about an hour to make sure he was going to stay asleep before leaving Lark and Dylan on babysitting duty and driving across town.

I found a parking spot a couple of blocks away. The garage door was already open when I walked up, and Lucky met me in the driveway and gave me a kiss. Then he smiled at me and said, “I’m glad you’re here.”

“Me, too.”

I followed him inside, and he tapped the button on the wall to close the door behind us as he said, “It’s a nice night, so I thought maybe we could sit outside.”

“Sure. I didn’t realize you had a backyard.”

“I don’t really, but I do have a small deck with room for two chairs. The other half of it’s taken up by my shower.”

“Your shower is outside?”

He nodded. “The former auto dealership didn’t come equipped with one for obvious reasons, and that was an easy solution.”

That made me grin. “Your neighbors must love you. Do they line up along the fence every morning and drool? Or afternoon, I guess, since you told me you’re basically nocturnal.”

“Most days, I shower at the gym. But when I do use the outdoor shower, the seven-foot-high privacy walls generally discourage an audience.” He led the way to the makeshift kitchen, and as he pulled a pitcher of drinks from the compact refrigerator, he added, “I’ve been working on shifting my sleep schedule, by the way, so I’m not all that nocturnal anymore.”

“Why?”

He shrugged as he put the pitcher on the counter. “It’s time to start acclimating myself to what the rest of society is doing.”

“Is that because you’re thinking ahead to running your family business? I assumed that was what the new, more ‘serious’ glasses were about, too.”

“That’s exactly why, actually. I’m supposed to fly back home for some meetings in a couple of weeks, and I’d like to instill at least a shred of confidence in my dad and his team.”

“You never told me what type of business it is,” I said.

“Liquor production and distribution.”

“Well hell, if you’re going into the liquor business, I wouldn’t really worry about looking serious. In fact, you should wear those tragic safety glasses to the meetings and tell them you’re taking the company in a fresh, new hipster direction.”

He chuckled and said, “And now I’m second-guessing turning to you for all my decisions. Speaking of which, I hope my texts all week weren’t annoying. I was just trying to make you smile, but I know you’re busy with your son.”

“Your messages were anything but annoying. In fact, they were the highlight of my week.”

He turned to look at me, maybe to see if I was serious. When his gaze dropped to my mouth, I reflexively licked my lips, and his parted. Then he leaned in, and I sank into him.

Kissing Lucky was profound, life-altering, and just plain fun. He picked me up and sat me on the counter without breaking the kiss, and I wrapped my legs around him as I wound my fingers into his thick hair. He flooded my senses with his sweet taste, the subtle scent of his cologne, the warmth of his body against mine.

I’d missed this all week. In fact, I’d craved it. Now I couldn’t get enough.

It seemed he couldn’t either, because this went on for a long time. Finally, he stepped back and took my hand, and I jumped off the counter and followed him upstairs. There was no discussion. We both knew what we needed.
