It looks like she’s just woken up, her eyes read and her hair pulled back into a ponytail. She’s wearing an oversized white t shirt, black shorts sticking out from underneath.
“Need you to come to Alik’s cabin,” I tell her.
“You don’t think I haven’t seen all his calls?” she asks in irritation.
“Doesn’t matter if you have or not considering you’re still here,” I look pointedly past her before allowing my eyes to move back to her face. “I don’t have time to argue with you, so I’m going to lay out your options. You’re either going to come with me willingly or I’m going to toss your ass over my shoulder and carry you right on out of here.”
Those pink eyes flare brighter. “And I’ll burn you to a crisp.”
I snort a laugh. “I’m not dumb, Soskia, I know you don’t have your powers.”
Her face drops and her grip on the door tightens.
Sighing, I know I just set myself up to have a longer discussion than I need to be having right now.
Soskia looks like I just told her I killed her childhood pet instead of admitting that I know her secret.
“I don’t really want to argue with you about this right now, so how about you come with me an dI keep that precious secret of yours.”
I’d never tell anyone.
Not only is not my business to tell, but it's cruel to expose that someone has lost what makes them them.
Soskia doesn’t know that though.
Her jaw is gritted and she doesn’t meet my eyes directly. Turning she moves into the dorm, retreating into the back hallway. When she comes back she has a pair of slippers on her feet. She remains quiet as she steps out of the dorm, slamming the door behind her.
I don’t try to force conversation, instead just leading the way out of the dorm and toward the private housing area that rests just at the back of the campus. There’s only a handful of cabins and they’re always reserved for the most important fae. I’m actually surprised that Soskia isn’t living in one of them or with her fiance.
Alik’s cabin sits all the way to the back, just in front of the woods. It’s a shifter's dream, especially one with a wolf affinity or even a fox, like myself.
The cabin door is unlocked and I pull it open, letting Soskia slide in before me. When I step inside, I pull the door closed and lock it.
I can hear shuffling in the back of the house so I move toward the guest room that I thought Neyrssa was done occupying.
Guess I was wrong again.
Soskia follows behind me, her steps soft.
I open the bedroom door and just barely manage to get out of the way as something comes flying across the room at my head.
Soskia lets out a little noise as she moves out of the way as well.
My eyes widen and I look into the room, mouth falling open.
Brynsyn and Alik are both trying to pin Neryssa against the wall, the girl thrashing wildly. Her curls are flying and there’s a sheen of sweat on her forehead.
Her head snaps in my direction and I blink as I find pure black orbs staring at me.
She opens her mouth so wide that I think she’s going to scream, but instead black tendrils flow out.
What the fuck?
