"Oh, it's nothing, just a note for myself," I lie, trying to take another step back. Before I can go any further, Todd jerks me to a stop.
His eyes search my face and he remains silent but the cheerful energy he usually has is completely gone. I try to pull out of his grasp, but it's too late as his fingers dip down the front of my dress, retrieving the paper.
"Hold her," he says, glancing at Mario.
The bulkier man wraps his arms around my waist, tying my hands down to my sides as I try to jerk out of his grasp.
"What are you doing?" I ask Todd. I can still try to play this off and act like there's nothing out of the ordinary.
He doesn't even bother to bring his attention up to me as he unfolds the paper.
Fuck.
I start screaming. I yell at the top of my lungs. I may not be able to get away, but I sure as fuck can try to catch the attention of someone else. I'm not going to just stand here, helpless.
Todd's gaze snaps to mine and he takes a step forward, slapping his hand over my mouth. With his free hand, he shakes the paper out until it finishes unfolding. The second he sees what's on the paper, a muscle twitches in his jaw.
His eyes meet mine. "Looks like you were stealing." He shakes his head. "I knew there was something up when everyone said Giovanni's mistress was working here. I should have spotted you out for the conniving little bitch you are."
He steps closer, his face so close to mine that his warm breath blows across my skin.
I try to pull away, but Mario doesn't budge.
This isn't going to end well for me. Even a fool can see what is about to go down here.
I close my eyes, taking a deep breath as I weigh my options. Giovanni still hasn't issued me the gun that he mentioned and I wouldn't be able to get to it either way with my arms pinned down. Opening my eyes, I bite down on Todd's hand and he pulls it away with a shriek.
I slam my heel down on Mario's foot as hard as possible and his arms instantly drop as he lets out a curse.
Looks like the red bottoms are at least good for one thing.
But I don't waste time kicking them off of my feet as I turn and run. I've learned from past mistakes that it'll only be to my detriment if I try to run in the heels. My feet slap against the cold floor as I take off in the direction of the club.
Footsteps sound from behind me and a moment later the air leaves my lungs as I'm tackled to the ground. My head smacks against the ground and the whole room goes blurry.
"Now, you little bitch," Todd hisses out into my ear as he pins me to the ground. The room starts to spin. "You're going to get up nice and slow and then you're going to tell me everything you know."
His body leaves mine slowly but there's a ringing in my ears and my vision is blurry. I hear Todd say something else to me, but the words are slightly muffled. There's a metallic taste in my mouth and I'm pretty sure I accidentally bit down on my lip too hard when I fell.
"Get up!" Todd hisses out again.
I lift my gaze, still having a hard time distinguishing things. After a few moments, my vision clears slightly and I watch as a door down the hall opens.
Enzo steps out.
I don't even try to get up, placing my hands over my head instead. If there's one thing I've learned in the last couple of months it's that the family always shoots first.
And Enzo proves me right as four shots ring out in the hallway in rapid fire succession.
