I look over at Enzo, finding him surveying Diamond and it makes me realize why this picture is odd.
Who the fuck is driving?
My heart drops right into the pit of my stomach as I look at Maximo sitting in the driver’s seat.
We would have been better off getting arrested.
Maximo slams his foot onto the gas, and speeds out of the lot. Red and blue sirens flash behind us as one of the cop cars follow.
Maximo laughs, “Stupid fucker.”
He accelerates more and then we’re flying around a corner. When he zips around another sharp turn, I decide I’d rather meet my death or my arrest with my eyes closed, no longer able to watch the mad man drive.
It doesn’t take long before he loses the cop on our tail, but he still doesn’t slow down.
“You don’t think driving like the flash isn’t going to still get you pulled over?” Diamond asks.
'“Shut up, porca troia, or I’ll drop your ass off on the corner,” Maximo snaps back before taking another sharp turn.
“Jesus,” Giovanni mutters. “Enzo, call the doctor for Diamond. Tell her to meet us at the compound.”
Diamond tenses up beside me. “If we were going to try to kill you, we would have already done so,” I remind him. “You should be saying thank you.”
“Maybe I’ll think about it when my arm doesn’t feel like it’s going to fall off.”
We manage to make it home in one piece.
“Doc says she’s five minutes out,” Enzo informs Gio.
Gio nods his head, “Okay, get him into the medical room.”
Enzo helps Diamond out of the car, despite the other man’s protests.
I stare at the blood covering the back of his jeans. “That doesn’t look like a graze,” I tell him.
“I can fucking walk, I’ll hop if I have to,” he tells Enzo, completely ignoring me.
I shake my head.
If he’s bleeding out from his leg like that and he also has a hole in his arm, then it’s only matter of time before the fucker pass out from blood loss.
Which may not be bad, because then we won’t have to hear his mouth.
