“I like their omelets,” Liam answers.
Hayley scowls but says, “Pancakes.”
I look at Killian and he points to the breakfast platter on the menu.
The server comes over and takes our order and silence falls over us again. They are about as fun as a rusty bucket of nails.
“What are you boys getting into after we leave here?”
Killian speaks up first. “I thought I would tag along with you if that’s okay?”
“Really?” I can’t contain my enthusiasm.
“Of course. I want to be there for you.” He pats my leg and gives me a squeeze under the table.
“I need a ride back to my truck,” Liam announces. “I work at eleven.”
“Hayley can take you in my car,” I offer before Killian can tell him to take his car.
“Sure,” Hayley agrees with a bleak look in her eyes as she unwraps her silverware. Killian bumps my shoulder and kisses my cheek.
Liam is giving me a death glare. If his eyes were lasers, I’d be cut in two right about now. I choose to ignore his dirty looks and keep the conversation moving.
“What time was your mom wanting to leave?” I look to Hayley.
“Noon.”
“Are you coming back here after you drop Liam off or going back to the dorm?”
“I guess it depends on what your plans are after you go to the home for your visit.”
“What are our plans?” I question my boyfriend and it feels really good to refer to him as mine.
“Whatever you want.”
“We should go bowling or something. Is there anything like that around campus?”
“There’s a mini-golf place,” Hayley tells me, and our food arrives.
Everyone digs into their food and that awkward silence returns. I am determined to help Hayley and Liam get over their crap one way or the other.
“Liam, you’ll come too?”
“Hmm?” He looks up from his plate.
“Mini-golf. We’re going to double.” I smile sweetly at him and flutter my lashes.
He laughs. “Is that what you do to get Killian wrapped around your finger? Flirt.”
“I’m not wrapped,” my man states. “And flirt. Are you flirting with him?” He accuses with an amused smirk.
“Eww no.” I make a disgusted face.
“Hey. I’m not that repulsive.” He smiles and I wink at Hayley. “What time are we doing this?”
“Will you be off by seven?”
“Yeah.” He nods in agreement, and I see some life return to Hayley.
