“I’m sorry. Maybe I shouldn’t have done that.” Even though her lips taste like honey and the scent of lavender body wash throws me into overdrive. “Forget that happened.”
“I’m not sure I can,” she says, staring at me. “Can you?”
My fingers caress her jawbone lightly. “Nope.”
Our lips crash together again, and this time I don’t stop there. My chair scoots closer, squeaking across the floor, and I pull her into my lap and place my hands on her hips. Fuck, does she feel good. My tongue slides effortlessly down her neck as she runs her fingers through my hair.
At that moment, a glimpse of Carol comes to mind, and my eyes start to water. Why am I seeing her right now? While kissing Tessa? Is my mind trying to tell me I’m not ready after all?
Fuck. What am I doing? Stop, you idiot. You’re ruining everything!
I push her slightly off my lap and back into her chair.
“What’s wrong?” She looks like I just ruined her whole evening. “Did I do something?”
Fuck. Why would she think that? She’s perfect, it’s just... Would Tessa want to share my heart with someone else? My head is spinning and I guess I take too long to answer because she gets up and goes to the bedroom.
What did I just do?
