He is a dangerous man for me.
Very dangerous indeed.
Chapter 9
Brendan
The fact that Brynn is not on birth control makes me happier than it should. I do not know her, not entirely, not yet, but none of that matters in the slightest to me. She is everything I didn’t know I needed. Kissing her is like a balm to my soul. Reluctantly, I pull away from her and look down into her eyes.
“You’re moving in with me,” I say forcefully. It might be too soon, but I do not care. She belongs with me, and that’s all there is to it.
“Is that a command or a question?” she asks, raising an eyebrow in response.
“Whatever it takes for you to do it,” I answer simply. “You hungry?”
“Yeah, but…”
“No buts. This is happening. It is inevitable,” I tell her as she walks into the kitchen. I’m starving. Eggs and bacon sound pretty good right now.
“I have to think about it,” Brynn says.
I turn and walk over to her, crowding her space.
“What is there to think about? You quit your job. Your family is here. I’m here. What’s left for you in Atlantic City?”
“Nothing, but that is not the point, Brendan. Not the fucking point at all,” she says, burying her face in my neck.
“So, what is the point,” I ask, my hands roaming her back.
“I do not know. I am sure that I had one, but I forgot what it was.”
“Maybe I should try asking again,” I say, grinning.
“Yeah, that might work.”
“Will you move in with me, Brynn Vitali?” I ask with mock cordiality.
“Tentatively, yes, but we still have a lot to learn about each other. What if we do not like each other in a few weeks. What if you snore or something? What if I do something you do not like?” She sounds so flustered; I just want to soothe her.
“That’s fair,” I reply though I do not mean it. “But I already know there’s nothing you could do that I won’t like.”
“That’s not true,” she says.
“Besides, I definitely snore, so there’s that. I cannot believe you did not notice last night,” I say, laughing.
“I was so exhausted. I wonder how that could have possibly happened?”
“Well, I have some guesses,” I say.
Before she can say anything else, there is a knock on the door. Quickly, I kiss her then move to answer the door. When I open it, I am instantly and irrationally disgusted by who I see there.
“Delivery for Brynn Vitali,” the man says rudely.
“I can take that,” I say, reaching for the small suitcase in his arms, while simultaneously reaching for some cash in my pocket for a tip.
“I am supposed to deliver it to her directly.”
“Fine. Wait here,” I tell him. For some reason I do not want him in my house.
Walking back into the kitchen, I find Brynn pulling ingredients out of the fridge.
“I was just going to make us some breakfast,” she says, not at all concerned with who was at the door.
“Sounds good. There is someone at the door for you,” I tell her.
“Oh! That must be Aaron,” she says excitedly.
“Who the hell is Aaron?” I ask, grabbing her arm.
“My mom sent me the stuff I asked for. He works for my uncle.”
“So, he is like an errand boy?” I ask.
“Um… kinda,” she hedges. I can tell she is not lying, but she is not telling the complete truth either. I watch her as she walks to the front door. Like a fucking creep, I watch her interaction with the man.
“Hey, Brynn. These your new digs?” he asks, trying to stick his head in the door, but with the way Brynn only has the door partially open and the way that she has positioned herself, he cannot.
“Mind your business, Aaron. What did you do to piss Uncle Al off?”
“I did my fucking job; Brynn You know that I did.”
“Right. Right,” she says, holding her hand out for the bag, but he does not give it to her.
“Don’t talk to me like that, Brynn. You know that I hate that. Where the fuck have you been for the last year? Shacked up with this asshole?”
“Where I have been for the last year is not your concern. Can I have the damn bag or not?” Aaron’s hand slaps down on the door causing Brynn to jump. He tries to push it open. Before I can intervene, Brynn wrenches the door open. “Have you lost your mind, Aaron?” He leans in closer to her and whispers something I cannot hear. She grabs the bag and closes the door in his face. Then she proceeds to lock all three locks on the door. What the fuck? I have half a mind to follow him and kick his ass. I will also need to have a conversation with Thomas. How the fuck did he get up here without me having to approve it?
